The ALPEMA Standards

These Standards, which were produced by the ALPEMA Members are the comprehensive and authoritative reference to all the main aspects of the specification, design, manufacture, purchase and use of brazed aluminium plate-fin heat exchangers (BAHXs). Printed copies can be obtained from ALPEMA Members. The Standards comprise the following chapters

• General description and nomenclature
• Tolerances
• General fabrication and contractual information
• Installation, operation and maintenance
• Mechanical standards
• Materials
• Thermal and hydraulic design
• Recommended good practice

The first edition of the Standards was published in 1994 and the second edition in 2000.

First revision to second edition of Standards, 25 February 2003

A number of minor changes have made to conform with the European Pressure Vessel Directive.  In addition some typographical errors have been corrected.  This revision incorporates those corrections which were included in the Errata sheet issued on 7 April 2003.  A pdf of the revision may be downloaded here (113KB).

Second revision to the second edition of the Standards, 31 August 2007

This revision deals with two points

1. Avoidance of the use of  inappropriate use of dye penetrant tests

2. Removes minor inconsistencies in the required dryness of purge gases.
